Early Life & Community Roots
Commissioner Gilbert "BJ" Bowling’s connection to Charles County runs generations deep. Raised locally, he lives in Dentsville with his wife, Jennifer, and their two children. As a fifth‑generation farmer, he owns and operates Newport Valley Farm, where his family raises grass‑fed beef and produce that support local families and small businesses.
Public Service & Professional Background
Commissioner Gilbert "BJ" Bowling brings more than 20 years of public safety experience from the Prince George’s County Police Department, where he retired as Commander. He holds an Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice from the College of Southern Maryland (1999).

Commissioner Gilbert "BJ" Bowling has long been active in community organizations and civic leadership, including:
- Chair, United Way of Charles County Board of Directors (former)
- Vice President, Charles County Farm Bureau (former)

He was elected to the Charles County Democratic Central Committee in 2014 and later served as Chairman, helping strengthen civic participation and community outreach.
